Alistair shows up briefly passing through too so you have the endorsement of the King for immediately keeping some companions like Anders from the start, even as Templars are demanding his head. The Setup – The setup of you having to build Vigil’s Keep back-up and recruit Grey Wardens is really great. The areas you visit are also much easier to navigate as well and aren’t as sprawling which made completing missions much more fun as I never faced the Deep Roads or Mountains slog from “Origins.” The combat synergy among the party was just as good as “Origins” as well. There were also quite a few enemies that provided a fun challenge such as dragons, armored ogres, darkspawn alphas of different types and a pride demon boss. The Gameplay – The gameplay flows a lot better this time around and of course importing the character gave all the options from before which made the experience more enjoyable. The story follows the Warden from “Origins” as you arrive at Vigil’s Keep under attack and must rescue it and the Wardens from the surprisingly organized Darkspawn.
Sadly what keeps it being higher in my recommendation of these games is like “Dragon Age 2” it has greater story ambitions than what it can actually accomplish. It builds on so much of what worked about “Origins” and is ambitious in the ideas it tries to explore. “Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening” is a really good expansion.
